About

Hi! I’m Heather McDougall aka McD Pots, an emerging Glasgow-based potter specialising in functional wheel-thrown stoneware.

Each one of my pots is hand-made with care and designed for daily use. I love embracing the natural surface qualities of the clay, and often use marbled clay and wax-resist techniques to leave parts of the surfaces of my wares un-glazed. With a connection to the Western coastline of Scotland, I'm influenced by aquatic flora and fauna, and am also drawn to celestial imagery; I often reference these themes either through bold illustration, or more abstractly through texture and shape.

My formal training is in Digital Animation but I started working with clay in 2022, feeling the need to develop a more tactile craft practise, balancing form and function. I'm lucky to work out of the vibrant shared space at Glasgow Ceramics Studio in the East End of Glasgow, where I completed a 6 month studio internship in 2025. Electric fired stoneware pots make up my primary range, and I also have a strong interest in atmospheric firing techniques including gas and wood firings; I have participated in fast fire kiln building projects in Bristol and at Arbroath’s Hospitalfield House.

A selection of my work is available to purchase through my shop page, and you can see my pots in person throughout the year at makers markets in Glasgow and further afield.
